Helping pets to lead happy and healthy lives

Physical treatment and rehabilitation

Pain may alter your pet’s posture and also the way it walks. These changes often cause muscle pain and abnormal loading of joints and ligaments, all adding to
the overall problem. With time there may also be long-term contraction of ligaments and muscles, adding to alteration of your pet’s gait and further contributing to pain.

The fear of pain when walking may further reduce your pet’s mobility.

Once we have started treatment and achieved good pain management, physical rehabilitation may help recovery by encouraging your pet to improve its mobility and muscle strength. These include:

• Hydrotherapy, helping to re-educate your pet to walk with a better gait.
• Using simple apparatus to help restore your pet’s balance.
• Physical therapies may also be used

All with the goal of restoring your pet’s confidence that walking need not cause pain.
